𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗠𝗘 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 – 𝗹𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗴𝗼𝘄! We are happy to announce that the #ISOLUME project will be at the #OSM26 in Glasgow and will focus on the question: What happens when underwater marine lightscapes change? That drives our session “𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻: 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 – 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀”. We will explore how coastal darkening, artificial light at night, and sea ice loss are reshaping marine lightscapes, and what that means for the ecosystems that depend on them. Stop by on February 25th and join the conversation! #ISOLUME, #ALANIS, #OSM26, #JPIOceans, #UNOceanDecade #MarineLightscapes #LightPollution #OceanDarkening #JPIOceansChangingMarineLightscapes Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon // Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde

ISOLUME: IndicatorS Of changing Lightscapes in Underwater Marine Ecosystems 🌊💡 ISOLUME is a pioneering international research project funded by JPI Oceans, bringing together 11 leading institutions from 6 European countries to address the urgent challenge of changing marine lightscapes. As human activity increases along our coastlines, the natural underwater light environment is being disrupted by two major factors: • Marine Artificial Light at Night (ALAN): Light pollution from cities and offshore industry. • Coastal Darkening: Reductions in water clarity due to environmental and climate changes. Our Mission: Over the coming years, the ISOLUME team will assess these changes across European sea basins on decadal and centennial scales. By understanding the drivers and impacts of light pollution, we aim to provide science-based recommendations and mitigation strategies for policy-makers to safeguard marine biodiversity. Follow our journey as we shed light on the future of our oceans! 🌍🐚 #MarineLightscapes #LightPollution #OceanDarkening Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon @hcvfrazao
